I've been excited about 'Sprinkles Bakery' opening here in the Fall...but I just learned of an imposter!
'Crave Cupcakes' looks like a straight rip off! They have "signature" sprinkle-esque toppers, Madagascar Vanilla Bean, a sleek-modern interior, display trays with round "sitter" holes, and tall icing that is has a sharp edges and flat finishes. It all looks like Sprinkles!!
I'm gonna go get one tomorrow and let u know what I think!
For the Diet Coke, Diet Dr. Pepper, Diet Cherry Coke, Diet Pepsi, and Coke Zero Addicts: "My name is Penny and I'm a Cherry Coke Zero Addict." "Hiiiii Penny." :)
For the Bakers/cupcake lovers like me:
For the dieters that would give up protein for icing as long as the calorie/fat count is the same:
For people like me who say, "You don't want to see me before I have my soda in the morning!" instead of Coffee:
For the Honey Nut Cheerio lovers like me who risk risk it all for the little...deceptively NON nutritional cereal bits:
For the people who go to carnivals for cotton candy, enormous lollipops, and the ferris wheel:
For those of us jipped on Halloween(We DON'T have to take this!!!):
I'm adding this to my post today--It's not been confirmed, but I just heard in the car that Michael Jackson died of cardiac arrest today-or is in a coma-I hope it's not true. JUST FOUND OUT IT IS-HE PASSED AT 3:15-I don't know much of what his personal life entailed, but he's certainly touched all of us with his music.
I have a question: Has anyone read Lolita?! AND- If you have, do you consider it a "predatory" book that condones sex offenses towards children- OR -Do you consider it an acceptable-tho controversial) love story?!
Lolita Novel Quote: Vladimir Nabokov Lolita, light of my life, fire of my loins. My sin, my soul. Lo-lee-ta: the tip of the tongue taking a trip of three steps down the palate to tap, at three, on the teeth. Lo. Lee. Ta. She was Lo, plain Lo, in the morning, standing four feet ten in one sock. She was Lola in slacks. She was Dolly at school. She was Dolores on the dotted line. But in my arms she was always Lolita. Did she have a precursor? She did, indeed she did. In point of fact, there might have been no Lolita at all had I not loved, one summer, an initial girl-child. In a princedom by the sea. Oh when? About as many years before Lolita was born as my age was that summer. You can always count on a murderer for fancy prose style. Ladies and gentlemen of the jury, exhibit number one is what the seraphs, the misinformed, simple, noble-winged seraphs, envied. Look at this tangle of thorns. I consider what happens when a writer takes a subject matter that I already have pre-set ideas of and turns it on it's head to be absolute magic, and one of the biggest accomplishments in the writing universe... I really want to know what others think about it. I recently read the book and watched both versions of the movie(gotta say that I actually liked the newer-Jeremy Irons version more than the Stanley Kubrick cult classic). I went into the novel thinking that I would see the relationship between the older man and the young girl as wrong, but- I really thought it was perfectly done, and I find myself thinking of it as a truly legitimate love...tho yes-I still think it's technically wrong to be with a minor. Tho what Humbert(male-main character) did is for sure gonna cause emotional problems for Lolita, and it's a crime...I also do think he was genuinely in love with her. The book is now in my top ten favorites because it changed the way I looked at the world a little bit--SO- BRAVO Vladimir Nabkov!! Clip of Kubrick's Version:
The Jeremy Irons Version:
In the movies: Dominique Swain was 16 during filming of the 1997 version, and Sue Lyon was 14 during the filming of the 1962 version. Is that a bad thing?! Or- Have we become too obsessed and over protective in the realm of the arts?! Lolita was originally published in France since it was turned down by American publishers and has been "controversial" ever since. What do you think of this book/movie and it's subject matter?! I'm actually writing a grad school Psych paper on this subject, and would be interested in people's reactions.
P.S.-If u haven't seen 'Penny Cribs', it's posted below :)
I recently discovered Emilie Simon(If ur speakers are on, ur listening to my fav of hers- 'Chanson De Toile'!), a French songstress who can weave together both the haunting imagery reminiscent of 'The Nightmare Before Christmas' and soft emotion that reminds me of Enya. ALL of her music is CRAZY amazing, and her music videos are artistic and mesmerizing to watch.
(sorry about the low res photo! I want a camera! :)
Our favorite couple this year - who we think is gonna go all the way- is Kayla and Max! Here's their performance from last week- I wanted to post theone from today, but the only available clips to post were so low quality it diminished the dance...boo! BUT- This samba they did last week was INSANE!! Hopefully, If u search for videos of them tomorrow, there will be some higher quality ones :)
I wanted to get to know 3 other blog readers of mine that I absolutely ADORE a little more, but felt I needed to fashion a different "tager" for them. I'm calling it "Getting to Know You"-a la 'The King and I' with Julie Andrews in the video below:
'Getting to Know You' 1) If you have a lifelong goal or dream in your mind, do you think you will achieve it? 2) Is someone's intention more important than their action? 3) You wouldn't be caught, where? 4) Post a pic of the place you would most like to go to in your lifetime. 5) If your home was on fire, and you could only save one photo- which would it be? 6) What is your favorite cupcake flavor? 7) If you could have made the book(or books) by any author you can think of, which would it be?!(For my non-writers, which art piece/ song/ design/whatever you do would it be?) ...I've also decided to sneak in another question- tho I know 7 questions is WAY too many for most people(I become overly involved in simple questions:) People ask me my fav color, and I say, "Pink. ...NO! Blue! ...wait. Pink/orange. -unless ur talking about on a flower, then it's a white tulip....But I also like blue hydrangeas and pink peonies." See! I can't help myself. It's a sickness! :) Anywho- the 8th question-if ANYONE gets this far is... 8) What is ur fav movie moment?
I'm really not sure why I made these particular inquires- Perhaps it's just a feeling I've had while reading each of your blogs that holds a common thread...hmm.
Ya'll don't have to answer anything you don't want to, but I would love to get to know my bloggy friends a little bit more! :) If you want to 'get to know' more people, you can tag 4 more people--or just leave it at u! :) I'm looking forward to reading your answers! :)
You SHOULD do this cuz: I want you to do it, The guys from 'The Hangover' want you to do it, These cupcakes want you to do it, Mick Jagger wants you to do it, Jack Nicholson wants you to do it, "I want the TRUTH!" This 'Hello, Kitty' cupcake wants you to do it, Katy Perry wants you to do it, AND - Jasmine Macaroon wants you to do it! SOOO...Don't feel pressured or anything :)
By the who- I will be answering said questions on tomorrow's post! :)
AND- ANYOnE else that has some -or even one- great answer to these questions above, I would LOVE to hear them in the comments OR on ur own blog! Just let me know if you put it on urs so I can go check it out!!! :) Can't wait to hear from all of you!
In all her awesomeness, Elizabeth - at It's Unbeweaveable!- Tagged me to share some pretty fabulous info about...ME!
TAG: show me your heart...
Instructions: "with as much creativity as you can muster, show your heart in: a picture, a poem, a song (or piece of music), a phrase (or quote), an item of clothing, a place, and (just for fun) a Disney princess. if you want to join in, tag 6 more blogs."
Song: 'Motorcycle Drive By' - Third Eye Blind(ur listening to it!)Jason put this song on a mix cd for me- I had never heard it despite being a Third Eye Blind fan for years. When it came through the speakers, I was in love, and called him immediately after it finished: Penny: "Where did you get that song?!" Jason: "It's Third Eye Blind. It was on one their cds." Penny: "Jesus Christ!! You're a freakin genius! I loved it from the FIRST guitar pick! It makes me want to feel the wind on my skin.
Also- My SECOND fav song is 'The Scientist' by Coldplay- 2nd on my playlist-I like the lines, "Tell me you love me. Come back and haunt me."- THAT'S commitment! :) ahahaha!
Picture:The first time I saw this moment in the movie, 'Almost Famous', I felt it was the sum of me- The character-Penny Lane-(one of the inspirations for my blog title)- Is young, experienced, in love, elated, embarassed, vulnerable, and joyous all at the same time. I've always felt loads of emotions at once in that way- Her feelings show through her eyes, and I love that- when you're everything you want to be, but still your own vulnerable self in a single look :)
Poem:
Female Author
All day she plays at chess with the bones of the world: Favored (while suddenly the rains begin Beyond the window) she lies on cushions curled And nibbles an occasional bonbon of sin.
Prim, pink-breasted, feminine, she nurses Chocolate fancies in rose-papered rooms Where polished higboys whisper creaking curses And hothouse roses shed immortal blooms.
The garnets on her fingers twinkle quick And blood reflects across the manuscript; She muses on the odor, sweet and sick, Of festering gardenias in a crypt,
And lost in subtle metaphor, retreats From gray child faces crying in the streets. -Sylvia Plath
-Plath is my literary soul mate :) I read this particular poem at 14, and connected with the first line. I've never analyzed the poem, but I don't really want to- It means too much to me for me to see what anyone else thinks:) The first line made me feel like Plath felt the same way I did. I've always been acutely aware of my faults, and I think Plath was as well- It's cruel, but I cannot look into the mirror or even think of myself without seeing everything that I'm not-all that I don't live up to. That ability is both dangerous and beautiful.
Quote: “The most important things are the hardest things to say. They are the things you get ashamed of because words diminish your feelings - words shrink things that seem timeless when they are in your head to no more than living size when they are brought out.” - Stephen King Stephen King-God of the Penny Universe. On a crisp fall day in 1993, 'The Shining' changed the course of my literary life :)
Item of Clothing:Dorothy's Ruby Slippers! They're shiny, mesmerizing AND a way to another place in the universe-- If I ever get the chance to steal these, I'm gonna take it! :)
Place: Paris My mom's family is from France, and she has always wanted to visit there- Paris in particular. It's been painted in my head since I was young that Paris was a city made of magic- When I actually get there one day, I'll probably cry- For me, the city seems to breathe and sparkle :) ...and-of course- the FIRST thing I want to see -even before the La Tour Eiffel, isLADUREE!
Where I will eat one of each flavor of their macaroons,
Hands DOWN! She's my fav!! She's friends with a cute owl,
I've always felt that love is more powerful than a feeling, so I digg the "kiss that can wake u from a coma" thing :) AND- She has not one fairy godmother, but THREE!! Cuz she's the most important princess- obviously! :) I like when they make Aurora's birthday cake with magic!!
BEYOND AWESOME!! I also watched the 'American Ballet Theatre' Put on a production of "Sleeping Beauty" a few years ago on tv that was amazing-
I usually don't like shows like that on tv, but the grace was still conveyed. I LOVE ballet! Jason and I went to see 'The Nutcracker' the first Christmas we were a couple, and it's one of my favorite experiences EVER with him!! :)
BUT- My fav song from a princess "story" has to be "Ten Minutes Ago" from Rogers and Hammerstein's "Cinderella"--I could sing it word for word when I was 7!-along with all the other songs!
Fun Fact: Jasmine Macaroon, my half tabby/half siamese cat is named after Princess Jasmine from Aladdin:)...Siam just kind of made me think of 'Aladdin'- tho it's not at all the same country as where Aladdin was- I think-in the original story- he was in China...The movie(I think)-just says Arabia....which I don't think ever included China...
...and now I tag! -You must do what the tag says-
