Relationship Advice: Do you know anyone who has trouble communicating in their relationship?! and why?!

I've gotten a bunch of advice requests that are very "Dear, Abby"-esque, and I thought I'd start addressing them in video responses...

Here's my first one!

DO you know anyone who has trouble communicating in their relationship?! and WHY?!

ALL of us worry that we aren't enough on some level. WHY?! Because we ALL have the ability for the extremes of doing the greatest kindness AND the most horrific damage inside. Sometimes, we WANT to do the horrific things and we fear that our desire will be seen...or that other's have noticed what we've done in the past. We fear the REAL us getting out.
WHAT if I'm not enough?! What if this isn't what they can deal with?! What if this makes me un-loveable?!
SO we sit- with lots of and lock others out of the areas we think they may not want to know about.

...but when you do that, you SPLIT yourself. Many of us have the part of us we show others...
...and the part of us we're afraid to let out..
...but keeping the REAL you hidden will ONLY ending up making things worse...

Narrator: I know it seems like I have more than one side sometimes...
Marla Singer: More than one side? You're Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Jackass!

...and you won't feel complete, happy, OR make the other person in the relationship happy...

When these things happen, there will be a COMMUNICATION BREAKDOWN!!

This is my response to the question: DO you know anyone who has trouble communicating in their relationship?! and WHY?!

GO contemplate what I've discussed, take one of these:
...and call me in 2 weeks! :)

You are so right. My parents, who are smart, articulate people, can't communicate with each other worth squat!
I have taken many what to dos from them, but a whole lot of what not to dos as well.
I am learning to just be me. the good with the bad. And try to have a lot more good than bad.
Great post!

:) I grew up thinking that I'd stay as far away from my parent's bad ways--one of which is getting angry and yelling at the other person....but I ended up being a pushover until a few years ago---It's so confusing to try and make the best decisions!....but everything you go through will help you decide how YOU want to respond to similar things in the future! :)

Oh gosh. Do I know anyone who DOESN'T have trouble communicating is a better question. I think it's a problem between the sexes. Men and women just communicate differently. If we could learn to speak each other's language, it would be far more effective!
